CCSS for Reading Literature and CCSS for Reading Informational Texts
For the Common Core State Standards in Reading Literature, I found the specificity and complexity of the standards to be a little daunting. I have always felt fairly confident in my ability to teach texts adequately, but there were a few things in these standards that definitely made me question that. For example, teaching students to " Analyze how an author draws on and transforms source material in a specific work (e.g., how Shakespeare treats a theme or topic from Ovid or the Bible or how a later author draws on a play by Shakespeare)," seems like a difficult task. This is because not only do you, as a teacher, have to know and understand the other texts and literary works that you will be drawing from to make the text being studied better comprehended, you have to make sure that your students have an understanding of these outside texts as well.
