To reflect on the work I’ve completed in this course, I want to start with the text presentations. I found these extremely helpful because they were unlike any other project or presentation that I’ve had to do for other classes. It made me realize how many resources there are out there for any issue that you may have as a teacher and also just how important it is to keep those books and resources handy while training to teach and throughout my teaching career in general. The content portfolio project was beneficial for the same reason; that I hadn’t done anything like it in any other class. To reflect on past work is extremely important, and it is really important to practice as future teachers because constant reflection is what helps teachers improve (as you have taught us).
In readings and discussions, I found it most beneficial that we explored all of the Washing State standards and reflected on them, especially since we were advised to observe which standards we were able to meet so far in our education and which ones we weren’t able to meet. This made it very easy to lay out which things we still need to work on as teachers and which things we feel confident on, and I found it to be a new way to look at my own education and preparedness.
My participation in this course has influenced my readiness as a teacher mostly by enlightening me on the amount of resources that are available to me. Along with that, I was able to learn how to navigate those sources and use them in an efficient way to prepare me for teaching. There was also a lot of self reflection and theorizing that happened in class that helped me to know how to really look at my own work and improve in any ways that I can.
